Example with Roots

Here is an example where you use the power rules in combination with nth roots.

Example 1

Simplify (a3 ×a23) 2

If you use the rules for roots you get that a3 = a1 3 and a23 = a2 3 . This gives you:

(a3 ×a23) 2 = (a13 × a23 ) 2

If you now use the rules of calculating with parentheses, you get:

(a1 3 × a2 3 ) 2 = a1×2 3 × a2×2 3 = a2 3+4 3 = a6 3 = a2
